Gulliver’s Travels (2010)
Travel writer Lemuel Gulliver takes an assignment in the Bermuda, but ends up on the island of Liliput where he towers over its tiny citizens. The story follows Jack Black as Gulliver, who after getting shipwrecked and washed up on an uncharted island, finds himself towering over miniature people. Other than that, there is nothing new in the plot.
Before I watched this, I did read in some sites that this movie was given bad ratings. While I do not agree a 100%, there were some parts where it dragged and most of the movie is laden with jokes that Jack Black does best mostly focusing on his size.
The special effects was good though. I did not expect to see a giant robot fight against him. Typically, the plot is common amongst comedy flicks. Main guy gets dethroned by newcomer, then betrays his side and joins enemy and fights the newcomer.
Even though the movie is set in modern times, the movie is not half bad. Kids will like this as they cannot differentiate corny from funny. Grownups though, may not find all jokes by Gulliver’s portrayal to be funny.
