District 9
District 9 is about a massive star ship bearing an alien population, nicknamed “The Prawns” appeared over Johannesburg, South Africa. Well, their faces look like prawns. They get to live in an area specially for them called District 9. Twenty years later, the initial welcome by the human population has faded. The refugee camp where the aliens were located has deteriorated into a militarized zone, where they are confined and exploited in squalor.
The corporation Multi-National United, is contracted to forcibly evict the population with an operative leading the charge. However, during the operation he is exposed to some kind of chemical (supposedly used to power up the ship) that slowly turns him into one of them. It is during this stage that he asks for the aliens’ help.
The movie is ok in my opinion. At first, it seemed kind of boring because we get to see interviews of people talking about the aliens and all, kind of like a documentary so it was a bit dragging. Once the operative got exposed to the chemical is when things started to get interesting especially when he gets to use alien weapons that only work to alien DNA. The movie here showed how despicable humans are treating aliens like that. Though it may be of their hideous appearance that people wanted them out of the planet.
The humans were lucky though that the aliens are not hostile, else this would have become like a Starship Troopers battlefield. I was glad I watched this in my laptop. If I had watched this in the theater, I might have bolted out a few minutes after it started because it may have bored me.
