NBA All Star Weekend 2009

Forgive me for the long absence. I had been swamped with work lately and coupled with this recurring Globe DSL problem, sometimes I decide to go to sleep instead of still being online. It almost happened again 30 minutes ago though it went back to normal now … but how long will this last??? We will see. Anyway, I just watched most of the activities during NBA All Star Weekend in Phoenix, Arizona. I usually only watch the 3 point shootout and the all star game but this time I downloaded the slam dunk competition, seeing as how interesting it was last year I was curious if it would be the same this time. It was pretty enjoyable though there were a lot of missed dunks at first. As much as dunks have gotten common each passing year, the only way to impress judges these days would be to become creative aside from the usual dunks.

The 3 point shootout was a disaster. Rashard Lewis would have won it but Daequan Cook tied him in the final round so another round happened to determine the champion and Rashard missed a lot badly. I did watch the Skills competition for the first time and I think that this event is plain useless. I have not watched the HORSE competition yet so no comment as of now. The All Star game was a classic. Even though I have not watched it yet, I am sure it was such an eventful one considering Kobe and Shaq were co-MVPs. And being the Laker fan that I am (started during Magic’s days), the game was all Kobe and Shaq (with a little Gasol).

There was one thing I found funny though. When Nate Robinson and Daequan Cook won the 3 point shootout and slam dunk competition, the emcee black girl’s outfit did not fit well for the event. It was like she went to some local mall or something. She should have worn something more suited to All Star Weekend.
