Munching on potato chips just got a little healthier?
Man, if I hadn’t read any news about this, I would never have known even until now that one ingredient in potato chips can cause cancer in high levels of it. The news mentioned it can cause cancer in lab animals so it’s never impossible that it wouldn’t affect us humans too. California just sued H.J. Heinz Co., Frito-Lay, Kettle Foods Inc., and Lance Inc. They agreed to lower levels acrylamide which is the main culprit of the cancer causing issue.
If you don’t have any idea what acrylamide is, here’s a definition I found in some site in the web. Acrylamide is a chemical that can form in some foods during high-temperature cooking processes, such as frying, roasting, and baking. Acrylamide in food forms from sugars and an amino acid that are naturally present in food; it does not come from food packaging or the environment.
I’m not sure if it’s the same issue with potato chips here in the Philippines. But to be on the safe side, lessen your intake on potato chips …. and … junk foods. There has never been a cure for cancer so let’s all take good care of our bodies and minimize eating unhealthy food. It’s good news that they’re going to minimize acrylamide in potato chips. Still, the risk is still there that cancer will just be waiting around the corner ..
