Haiti was devastated when the earthquake hit them around 2 years ago. While foreign aid is key to helping them rebuild, Haiti cannot depend on them alone. Long term prosperity depends on business development.
Haitian Richard Coles’ family has owned land since the world’s only successful slave revolution in the early 1800s’. He employs 3,000 people at his apparel assembly plant, pays above average wages, and provides on site medical care.
This he sees as a way to help the people of Haiti rebuild and move on from the catastrophe that befell their country. Honestly speaking, it is pretty hard to recover from such calamity but they have strengthened their will to rebuild their damaged homes. But I think companies like Richard Coles Haiti are giving the people of Haiti this chance to recover from that devastating earthquake.
A business solution is key to try eliminating Haiti’s poverty problem. Especially since that earthquake happened, many people lost everything and with that, poverty became extreme. Companies have tried their best to help people cope up with the disaster and start life anew.
