File Extension Part
Ever wonder how large files get downloaded to your computer? I am sure you do not mind since all you care about is that the whole file gets downloaded without problems. This scenario is actually taken care of by download managers. The logic here is that rather than downloading the whole file, small chunks of the file are separated and downloaded individually.
This speeds up your download as a whole. When all the individual files are downloaded, the download manager will then take care of merging them all as one file. This is commonly known as file extension part. You will notice that the filename will have an extension of .part while download is ongoing.
Once download is complete, the merged files will then be named the same as the supposed original file you downloaded. All this happens behind the scene. Know more about other file extensions like doc, asp and xpi here.
