Ozone Hole Grows In 2008
|

“The ozone hole over Antarctica in 2008 is larger in both size and ozone loss than last year, but not as large as in 2006, the European Space Agency said Tuesday”. After reading that first sentence in the CNN website, I can’t help but think how Earth would look like 20 years from now. Kinda reminds you of the movie The Day After Tomorrow wherein the ultraviolet rays burned people’s skins. This is the reality. There is already a certain part in a country where the ozone hole’s directly above it. I just forgot what the country’s name is. Suntan lotion is a hot commodity there as they try to avoid getting directly exposed to sunlight. Skin cancer anyone? It’s a good thing countries have made steps to try and minimize ozone depletion. It is mainly caused by extreme cold temperatures at high altitude and the presence of ozone-destroying gases like chlorine and bromine in the atmosphere. Ozone depletion? Global warming? Ack! I hope 2009 will be a better year for the ozone. Ozone healing is still a long way to be a reality, but I hope more countries would curb up more ways to prevent the ozone from getting bigger. Sunbathing will be a thing of the past if this keeps up.
