Kroll For iTouch

Kroll, by Digital Legends Entertainment is a side-scrolling action game for the iTouch that features 3D characters. Set in a fantasy world populated by monsters and giants, it tells the story of Delon, a warrior who is on a quest to rescue his daughter. To do so, he must confront Kroll and his monsters. Equipped with a huge hammer type weapon, you go around bashing enemies until you reach the end of each level.

I’ve played through 2 chapters in easy mode and I thought it was easy. The 3rd chapter though is a different story. Up until now I couldn’t get past the boss. Why? That is a complete mystery considering I am in easy mode. There is no opening when you try to attack the boss. If you make a move, he will hit you instead just when your character is actually trying to swing his weapon to the enemy. So basically, there is no chance to defeat this boss. And to think this is still in easy mode. What more if I played the hard mode. The graphics are great. Controls are alright although they could have done the attack finger taps anywhere on the horizontal area. You’re forced to tap on the left most and right most part of the screen to hit the enemy left or right. If you tap it somewhere in the middle, your character just stays put and gets hit by enemies. The game is somewhat big, around 80+MB. Overall, still a good game.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for iTouch

What’s an iTouch without Star Wars? I love any game they have to offer as much as I love the movies, toons and toys. The last time I played a Star Wars game was from the PSP version called Lego Star Wars trilogy. In this iTouch version though, you’re not a Lego Star Wars character. Your character is an apprentice Sith serving Darth Vader. Because your character is loyal, you follow his mission orders like killing Jedis. Unbeknownst to you, you will be double crossed by Vader himself after you complete most of the missions and you will be on the last parts of the game. In the end you will be facing him and become a good guy.

Before starting a mission, you will go through a tutorial teaching you a Sith’s moves like force grip, force pull and force push to name a few. Heck, you can even rejuvenate your life using the Sith’s power. All these can be done with finger strokes which will be shown to you during the tutorial. Not all can be used right away. A new move or two will be introduced after you complete missions and they can be vital and useful to completing the next one. The game boasts good graphics, good gameplay, knowable characters from the movies and … we can never forget a lightsaber hehehe. Surprisingly, your power is not limited to defeating Jedis and storm troopers alone. You will also be facing AT-ST walkers so good luck finding out how to stop them and complete the level. The game gives you the option to play in easy mode or hard mode. You can rotate the game between portrait and landscape mode which did not give the characters any stretched look.

So, what are you waiting for (Star Wars fans like me). Get the game, play as the Sith apprentice and may the force, be with you ;).

de Blob For iTouch

I recently checked out this game and I think it’s a good one. The game features great graphics and unique gameplay. You go around the city doing missions and you earn points. My only problem with this one is when de blob starts running fast, I can’t control it very well and I end up getting hit by an inkt agent and die in the process hehehe. Maybe with some more practice I could get the hang of it. It may take awhile though because I can’t even understand what my blob is doing because of the speed so I need to get used to this.

De Blob lives in a metropolis where enemies known as INKT have drained the color of his beloved city. From buildings, flowers, walls and trees. You’ll roll de Blob through the streets, using either the touch screen or the tilt controls in order to locate resistance fighters who give you missions to let you earn points in order for you to finish a level. The game gives you the option to use either the tilting feature or just tapping it manually for movement. As I mentioned awhile ago, I can’t see much movements of other enemies clearly because my blog moves speedily since I use the tilt feature of the iTouch. Oh, and don’t get hit by any enemy. If you do, simply go to a pool to wash the ink off. If you get hit, never touch any objects as it will wash away the color of any object that you just painted nor do you touch a color pool as this will disintegrate it. As much as possible, stomp those INKT agents right away before they inkize (my term haha) you.

SquirrelMail

If you’re looking for a free open source email web client, look no further. Squirrel Mail is good choice for that. The code is written in PHP and you don’t need to have in depth programming knowledge in order to work your way around to making this web client work. Instructions are provided for you to configure settings needed to have this up and running. Although you may need to have knowledge in setting this up in a server, say Apache HTTP Server. SquirrelMail uses a MySQL database for storing incoming and outgoing emails. Even attachments are allowed here. It includes built-in pure PHP support for the IMAP and SMTP protocols, and all pages render in pure HTML 4.0 (with no JavaScript required) for maximum compatibility across browsers. The UI may not be as sophisticated as GMail, Yahoo or Hotmail (although this is asking too much), but the core functionalities that a user needs like sending, receiving, attaching are all here. I won’t go through the details of installing and configuring it. You only need a little technical knowhow to know your way around setting this up.

Additional plugins can also be installed for use with SquirrelMail like a Rich Text Editor among others. Or a spell checker and dictionary library. If your sideline clients want a web email client for their mails, I highly recommend SquirrelMail. I tried it. It works. And it’s good. Better yet, it’s free.
