Viewing .CHM Files In Mac OS

The CHM extension is a proprietary file format created by Microsoft for help files. It is WinHelp’s successor. And good thing for Mac OS users, there are softwares available for viewing CHM files.

Chmox is one of the simplest software to read the CHM files in OS X and has no option to configure. Just double click a CHM file, and voila!

Chamonix is another software that can read CHM files. I have not tried this one since I used Chmox. One is enough but I’m pretty sure this one’s a good software too.

CHM files are merely nothing else but help information so there’s no need for complexities with software features. As long as it can read CHM files, you should be good to go.

Hidden Expedition: Everest For iTouch

When I first ran this game, I thought it was a game similar to Shakky Summit’s gameplay. Turns out it the first game that I’ve seen for the iTouch where the gameplay looks similar to Mystery Case Files. Yes, Big Fish Games is the maker of this hidden object, look for it type of game. Although the main feature of this game is similar to Mystery Case Files, Hidden Expedition adds a little twist. You will choose a member of The Hidden Expedition Club and go on a race to the summit of Everest against the other members. To reach Everest, you need to look for designated items assigned to you. Once you find all items, you will then move on to the next location. If you get stuck, a hit-o-meter is there to assist you but it is not available to you all the time. Once you use up a hint, it takes a while for the hint-o-meter to be full and available for use again. Use your hints wisely. I knew it would be soon that a hidden object look for it type of game will be developed for the iTouch. And it’s finally here! Great graphics and fun gameplay. If you’ve played Mystery Case Files, this one’s no different.

FieldRunner For iTouch

Sub Atomic Studios brings us Field Runners for the iTouch. I think there’s a PC version of this game called Tower Defense. FieldRunners features non stop game play. You are given 4 kinds of offensive weapons.

Gatling Tower gives you continuous short range firing power.

Goo Tower slows down your enemies and is good for medium range.

Missile Tower splashes damage and is a long range firepower.

Tesla Tower emits electricity, is medium range and inflicts massive damage upon enemies.

The enemies and your weapons usually have varied abilities and costs. When an enemy is defeated the player earns money or points, which are used to buy or upgrade towers. The choice and positioning of the towers is the essential strategy of the game. Drag the towers on to the field to position your defenses.

The first time I played it, I thought, hey, this is too easy since all sets of enemies that come at me per round gets blasted right away. Once I got to round 60 (in easy mode), I can barely scratch one tank. This was because the enemies moved in a different direction (this is what you get if you don’t read the HELP first hand he he he). Either of the 4 weapons (depending on how much money you have which also depends on the enemies you destroy), you would have to be creative where you place them on the field. The best way to do this would be to slowly populate your weapons along a pathway that your enemies can only go through. Hence, they will be under your trap. If you scatter your weapons on the field, chances are they will move in some other direction where there are only a few of your weapons await. The second time around, I got stuck at round 100. My tesla towers were not positioned correctly since they were scattered around. The third time I played this game, it seemed that your goal is to finish 100 rounds of enemies passing through the field and the game will be done. I was able to finish it because I placed my tesla towers somewhere in the middle so that they could help in attacking the choppers and give good and big damage to them. Oh, and I also did upgrades haha, I forgot to do them the previous rounds.

Currently, there is no music and sound effects but it didn’t matter to me because I grow tired of placing earplugs while playing. I tend to usually play without music. There is also only one map available, hence the game may get redundant. However the developer has promised new maps for the game’s next version. This game is addictive and features great graphics. It is definitely one of my undeletable games for my iTouch.
