Comparing BPI, BDO & Metrobank Credit Cards

What is your defining factor when choosing which bank you will go to when applying for a credit card? So far, I have 3 experiences with 3 banks namely, BDO, BPI and Metrobank.

They all have pros and cons but I would have to say when it comes to service, BDO and BPI sucks! Even if it is their fault.

This is a norm in the Philippines. Usually, the right thing to do is they “find ways” (read that, BDO?) to solve issues. But no, all they give to clients are robotic messages and arrogance by giving out the same negative answers over and over.

So read on to know what I have experienced with them over the years …

1) BDO - I used to have Equitable credit card when they were not yet bought by BDO and I have to say they had excellent service back then. Once BDO bought Equitable is when my problem started.

I did not know that I had to renew as a new subscriber. Shouldn’t that have been their responsibility to inform us? I was so pissed because all my hard earned points went to waste.

And the worse thing was when I asked the agent “is there nothing you can do?”. She said “no sir, there is nothing we can do”. So where the hell does BDO’s “We Find Ways” fit in? Considering it is their fault in the first place.

2) BPI - Before my application was submitted to Manila, a CI called me up to confirm my details. While talking to him, I learned that the Amore credit card has no points system in it, only the blue card. So I told him to scrap Amore and have them give me the blue credit card instead since I am after the points.

Now, I never noticed that I received the Amore card until my wife checked out hers. I was furious because we already spent a huge amount just to get started with the points system. I went back to BPI’s office to complain and told them to convert those amount into points into my blue credit card since I registered for new ones.

2 weeks had passed and I still have not heard from them. Makes me wonder if they have customer service people working for them at all.

So I decided I will have my credit card terminated. Good thing I followed my wife’s advice not to terminal my Metrobank credit card in case I do not like BPI’s service.

3) Metrobank - No problems here so far. The only thing I do not like with them is their promotions suck. But if promotions are not what you are after, then by no means, go apply with them.
