Establishments In The Philippines That Require You To Show Any ID If You Pay Via Credit Card Are Stupid
So here is the thing. Not all establishments require you to show your ID when you pay through credit card. Those that do though, are stupid.
Yes. Stupid!
Here is the thing. What for? Afraid of fraudsters? I can understand if they require you to show a government issued ID but any ID? No way! Any fraudster can make up their own fake ID. All staffs do is just look at the photo of the ID if it matches your face in person.
That’s screwed up.
Also, I never bring my social security service (SSS) ID because I fear if I get mugged anytime, it will be stolen as well. Heaven forbid how long one has to wait in order to get their ID. I was lucky because the company I worked for was the one who took care of it.
But what about those who do not have the luxury of having someone else do the task for them in following up the status of their ID?
Okay, so another option of a government issued ID is a driver’s license. But not everybody has a vehicle.
Plus, I do not bring my company ID with me on weekends since I do not have work. It is really irritating when one gets told to show their ID. Or else, customers then get robotic induced messages from the attending staff.
I do not blame the staff since most of them are afraid of their superiors (even though in many cases, it is the superiors who suck).
So this is to the management of the establishments that require customers to show “ANY” ID first when they pay via credit card. You are stupid!
If other establishments don’t do it, why can’t you?! As if establishments like Gaisano Grand in Talamban where I recently experienced this are losing money :P.

They are violating Visa and MasterCard rules if they require ID. As long as the back of your card is signed all they are allowed to do is compare the signature between the card and slip. A google search will reveal a lot about this.
@mystery: thanks! didn’t know about that
