BDO: “We Find Ways” … Really? Do They?

After twice getting in a pinch with this bank institution, it is time to sum up what BDO’s “We Find Ways” truly means. Actually, there is a continuation that they purposely leave out in advertisements and commercials. The truth is, BDO’s complete slogan is: BDO: We Find Ways … “for rich people”. Now, if you […]

Comparing BPI, BDO & Metrobank Credit Cards

What is your defining factor when choosing which bank you will go to when applying for a credit card? So far, I have 3 experiences with 3 banks namely, BDO, BPI and Metrobank.

They all have pros and cons but I would have to say when it comes to service, BDO and BPI sucks! Even if it is their fault.

This is a norm in the Philippines. Usually, the right thing to do is they “find ways” (read that, BDO?) to solve issues. But no, all they give to clients are robotic messages and arrogance by giving out the same negative answers over and over.

So read on to know what I have experienced with them over the years …

1) BDO - I used to have Equitable credit card when they were not yet bought by BDO and I have to say they had excellent service back then. Once BDO bought Equitable is when my problem started.

I did not know that I had to renew as a new subscriber. Shouldn’t that have been their responsibility to inform us? I was so pissed because all my hard earned points went to waste.

And the worse thing was when I asked the agent “is there nothing you can do?”. She said “no sir, there is nothing we can do”. So where the hell does BDO’s “We Find Ways” fit in? Considering it is their fault in the first place.

2) BPI - Before my application was submitted to Manila, a CI called me up to confirm my details. While talking to him, I learned that the Amore credit card has no points system in it, only the blue card. So I told him to scrap Amore and have them give me the blue credit card instead since I am after the points.

Now, I never noticed that I received the Amore card until my wife checked out hers. I was furious because we already spent a huge amount just to get started with the points system. I went back to BPI’s office to complain and told them to convert those amount into points into my blue credit card since I registered for new ones.

2 weeks had passed and I still have not heard from them. Makes me wonder if they have customer service people working for them at all.

So I decided I will have my credit card terminated. Good thing I followed my wife’s advice not to terminal my Metrobank credit card in case I do not like BPI’s service.

3) Metrobank - No problems here so far. The only thing I do not like with them is their promotions suck. But if promotions are not what you are after, then by no means, go apply with them.

Bouncing Checks Can Be Painful

To the wallet that is. I do not like checks. They are annoying and useless to me. However, because of an investment in a condominium unit I had no choice but to get a checking account of my own.

My treatment with checking accounts is the same as credit cards: there will always be funds to ensure that I won’t get penalized and to avoid using those funds for non important things.

But I guess we all get bitten by the bouncing check curse. I did not know that when you issue a check date, there should already be funds in one’s checking account within that date. I thought the 3 day clearing process applies that funds need to be available before the 3 day clearing period ends.

Man, was I pissed to know that it does not work that way. I got charged every day. That hurt a lot. I am sure it will hurt anyone who works hard to earn their money and the bank does not incorporate a feature in their system to notify the user if any penalties had been incurred.

Well, BDO just sucks. Emailing clients from within the system is no hard task. It is downright easy. But, well, business is evil so clients always end up suffering. The system could have emailed me on the first day of the penalty itself. That way, I would not have incurred more penalties the next day.

But nooooo, no email came. Hence I was surprised to learn after the clearing period ended that the check bounced when I transferred the funds the day after the person I gave my check to deposited it.

Sigh. I hope BDO will waive the penalty. I did not know about this. Besides, what is the point of their “We Find Ways ….”? That will be put to the test if it is clearly just a ploy to fool more clients or they are really sincere with that phrase being plastered everywhere there is a BDO presence.
