Real Steel (2011)
Man, after watching Real Steel I realized it had been quite some time since I last watched an enjoyable and emotional movie prior to this one.
Set in the near future where robot boxing is a top sport, a struggling promoter feels he’s found a champion in a discarded robot which his estranged son found in a junkyard after an almost near death accident.
Slowly through winning matches, Hugh Jackman’s character slowly develops a bond with his son, whose mother passed away.
I expected the sparring robot named Adam to actually win the match even though the opponent (Zeus) won because the tournament was rigged in the first place, it still was not surprising and in the end, they really did not care because the people knew that they really won.
The kid’s acting was annoying though. I always hate it when small kids act like they are adults. He was obnoxious and arrogant. So was his dad. Yeah, Real Steel is just a movie. But I just hate those kind of attitudes that characters portrayed by small kids do.
Other than the annoying voice of the kid, the movie is really good. Even better than the preceding movies I watched the day before (Immortals, Wrath of the Titans).
