How I Lost Interest In The PBA

PBA or Philippine Basketball Association is the Philippines’ basketball professional league. Back when I was still in high school, I used to keep myself updated on my favorite team, the Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs. At that time, there were lots of brilliant Filipino basketball players as well.

Once a rival basketball league opened itself to the nation called the MBA, it was also the time that the PBA accepted players that are not pure Filipino. I feel that they were threatened with the MBA’s existence and the defection of some players to the other league that prompted them to hire part Filipino players from out of the country. The MBA did not last long (sad to say). It was more exciting than the PBA because fans would root for their hometown cities.

The MBA did have some non and part-Filipino players but I see the PBA as being true all-Filipino and what they did, by accepting many non-pure Filipino players, I slowly have lost interest in the PBA. I do not watch the games anymore. The older generation of PBA players was what kept me glued with what is happening in any of their games. Now, I just ignore them.
