Golden Axe For iTouch

golden_axeSega has ported one of its classic games to the iTouch called Golden Axe. Three heroes: a powerful fighter, an amazon and a dwarf will be at your disposal to use to defeat the evil Death Adder who has captured the King and his daughter and holds them captive in their castle. Choose your hero in this classic action game, as you fight through Adder’s henchman as you battle through dark castles, on the back of a giant turtle and even on the wings of an enchanted eagle with weapon & magic, and even get to joyride on some beasts.

Each character has its own unique magic attack. The arcade version includes 2 more levels for more fighting action. The controls golden_axesimulate that of a joystick pad controller where transparent colored controls are displayed on the screen. It can be pretty hard to move up and down while battling enemies unlike if the movement was only in a horizontal linear path. I did not quite enjoy this one because I had a hard time with the controls but I guess old Sega faithfuls will find ways to enjoy this game despite my control woes. Maybe I just have thick fingers ha ha.

Sonic The Hedgehog For iTouch

sonicThe classic hedgehog we all love in Sega is now available for the iTouch. Released by Sega, relive your favorite memories of the Genesis era as you rocket Sonic through fast paced levels and dizzying dives as you gather up rings and stop Dr. Eggman. Sonic is one of my all time favorite classic games aside from Super Mario and I was pretty excited when I learned that it is available for the iTouch. The default display mode for the game stretches its visuals which makes the game not so high-res looking but still good looking. The game play is the same. All you need to do is move forward, backward and jump either to get rings or tromp on enemies.

The sounds are also excellent in my opinion. Interestingly, whenever you quit the game and go back to playing it again, you get to continue at the exact same place and level when you last quit so you do not need to start the level all over again. Pretty cool. The game does not feature tilting for moving Sonic along. It provides you with a sort of transparent control pads on the screen for moving (left side) and jumping (right button). There are Seven Zones including classics such as the Green Hill Zone and Labyrinth Zone, as well as special stages in an attempt to collect all the Chaos Emeralds. Overall, this is a pretty neat game. Sega did a good job porting it to the iTouch and it would be great to see other Sega classic games ported as well. Here is hoping Nintendo does the same thing ;) .
