The Issue Between Yahoo & Microsoft

Yahoo will now face massive fireworks from its major shareholders after turning down Microsoft’s latest offer. I’m pretty certain that this is greed (aside from pride) in Yahoo’s case. They wanted Microsoft to keep upping the ante and look what happened, MS withdrew. Although Yahoo’s CEO said that he’s willing to open talks with MS again, I doubt MS will go right ahead and offer a new one. They probably will wait and see Yahoo’s status as a company. When MS’ latest offer got turned down, Yahoo’s shares fell right away. Although not a big drop, as shareholders felt strongly that MS will offer Yahoo again after some time. I was right (when this first started after Yahoo said that its offer undermines its value as a company) that knowing MS as a very big company, they wanted to squeeze more cash from them as possible in order to at least maybe match their targeted share price that they failed to reach. So I wonder how this will turn out now. MS might offer Yahoo a new offer sheet in order to save them if its stocks plunge deeper. This will then not turn out what Yahoo expected it to be and their CEO might get whacked out by its majority shareholders.

Hostmonster’s Getting Worse

While i was busy sorting and configuring my wordpress blogs, my site went down all of a sudden. I said to myself, “not again! what’s going to be the reason this time?”. Having a short downtime I don’t mind. But more than 10 minutes??? No way! I finally emailed them after an hour. They never said anything regarding what the problem was other than an admin was on it and fixing the issue. I tried to login to their control panel and see what the error may be. Would you believe, overload? What the … The only thing I did the previous day was upload pics. That would be a lame reason for an overload. 4 hours passed … nothing. I had to email them back, told them I’m new with them and it’s only been a few weeks and this is the second downtime I have experienced with them, happened on a weekend and this one’s worse. It was boredom last night as I couldn’t do anything with my site, didn’t even bother checking if it’s alive after 6 hours. I went to sleep instead. And now, it’s back. They are pretty bad. If you plan to get your hosting with bluehost.com, don’t, they’re the same. They have disappointed me thus far but I will still monitor how it goes since I am still new with them.

Blogger or Wordpress?

These 2 are perhaps the most famous blog sites out in the open. You could ask the next question, which one is better? My answer, depends. If we talk about monetary purposes, and you have no plans to purchase your own hosting, go with Blogger. It allows you to place AdSense ads within your blog sites unlike the WordPress site. But hey, nothing’s free in this world anymore. Blogger gets a small percentage of the money that you earn whenever someone clicks on your ads. This is quite understandable as we are using Blogger resources for our blogs, it’s natural Blogger gets something in return. You can use WordPress with AdSense only if you have your own hosting and domain. In terms of ease of use and setting up, Blogger wins over Wordpress big time. You would have to have at least a bit of techie knowledge when using WP. Blogger’s user interface makes it very easy for users to place content and change their layout to name a few. I was so pissed when I first started using WP after I got my own hosting and domain. It’s sooooo unfriendly. Until now, I still hate WP but I have no choice. In my experience, I had a very hard time navigating the WP user interface when I first used it. It is PHP based, so you must at least know something about this in order for you to tweak your way around. It took time, but I finally did finish setting up everything I need with my blogs using WP. Remember, if you’re non-techie, I strongly advise you to use Blogger for blogging. You won’t have a hard time using it even when you’re still new to it. If you opt to use WP, good luck. You’re on your own.

hMailServer Email Server

If you are running Windows OS and are looking for a good, free email server, hMailServer is the best one out there. It is a free e-mail server for Microsoft Windows and supports all the common e-mail protocols (IMAP, SMTP and POP3) and comes with an easy-to-use COM library that can be used for integration with other software. It also has support for virtual domains, distribution lists, antivirus, antispam, aliases, distributed domains and much more. E-mail data is stored in a database server, MySQL or MS SQL, depending on your choice. It allows you to create email accounts for your domain. Everything that you need to do to setup a running email server, hMailServer provides them.

I was sure that I did not want to use IIS’ as an email server when I firsted started a project because it has limited features (as far as I know). Some things that I wanted to do like creating email accounts are not available, so I had to look for an alternative which meant looking for another email server that I thought had a crack (piracy! lol). Luckily though, hMailServer exists and I will be using this as the email server for all my other projects. It’s free! What more can you ask for.
