Did STC Do The Right Thing Banning The Students From Graduating?

I think this issue is getting out of hand. Heard the news lately? About some girl getting banned by her school from participating the graduation rites because she posted a photo of herself in a bikini in Facebook? That the action is not accepted in STC Cebu’s handbook.

I thought STC let the issue die down just till the graduation rites were done because they were ordered by the court to let the girls join the graduation rites. Yes, there were other girls supposed to join but they too were banned.

Anyhow, I will talk about the Facebook bikini issue.

I cannot say I side with the girl. I cannot say I side with the school either. I pity the girl for not being able to join the graduation ceremony. That alone can cause her great emotional damage. Who knows what she might do.

If the school will give a warning and let this issue pass, then students will just think that they too can get away with it if they also do the same thing.

I believe the girl’s side never read the school handbook just like any regular online user does not read the terms and agreement when registering for a site’s account. On the school’s side however, it is the school’s problem. If people do not like how STC’s administration run the school, then they should not enroll their kids there. Simple as that.

Overall, this issue still has many questions and people reading the news do not really have all the facts on hand. I am sure you want to see the photo too, right?

The school may have enforced rules based on the handbook but since this issue has gotten out of hand, they need to get into detail every rule stated in the handbook to avoid cases like this in the future.

If you ask me, I would say both sides are at fault. Glad Facebook was not around my high school and college years.

The girls and their parents know about the school’s policies. Every detail of it is discussed during the orientation and they are always reminded not to indulge in similar activities. Emotional damage??? The girls and their families are the ones inflicting this. What they did bounced back to them. The nuns were careful not to let this issue leak into the news, but it’s them that did it. If they just accepted the consequences of their actions, then the issue will die out. This is a lesson to all the students, male or female alike, and to parents, too, for being too loose on guarding their kids.Where were the parents during this event? Do you think if they were around, the girls will have a chance to do it? Am sure NOT! The act will surely anger them in as much as it angered the nuns.
