The Expendables (2010)

When I first saw the poster for The Expendables, I thought to myself “wow, this should be a good movie”. Quite a number of famous actors in the lineup. When my wife and I watched it, we were both taken by surprise at the beginning of the movie because the action scenes were already brutal. After the movie ended, I’d say this is a bad-ass movie.
Even though the action scenes were brutal, I would say this is one of those few movies who really know how to make action scenes. I mean, if you kill someone you make sure that you do the job right. One thing was certain in this movie though. If it was only Sylvester Stallone who starred in it, I think this movie would have sucked. He is very old plus his expression never changed from beginning to end. He looked like he was sleepy the entire movie.
Jet Li was seemingly un-invincible but his character was well played. Jason Statham I think made up for Stallone’s boring moves. Plus, when Stallone tried to catch up to the plane when they tried to escape, you can see the way he ran was pretty slow and that he tried hard to portray that he was running really fast. Arnold Arnold Schwarzenegger caught me offguard. I did not expect him to have a cameo appearance.
Eric Roberts played his villain character pretty well as did Steve Austin even though he barely talked much. The only thing that I did not understand in this movie is Dolph Lundgren’s sudden appearance at the end of the movie. I thought Stallone killed him, then after they defeated the villains they come back to their meeting place and you see Lundgren with them. Not sure if it was part of the plan or not.
Overall, this is a great movie. They all teamed up to make this a truly good action movie! Brutal yes. But come to think of it, if you try to kill somebody, would you leave any chance for them to be alive and come back at you? Great job guys!
