Save The Iconic HOLLYWOOD Sign
Investors who own the parcel of land where the famed HOLLYWOOD sign stands are planning to sell the property to luxury real estate investors for $22 million. But a conservation effort by the Trust for Public Land has been granted that they could buy it for $12.5 million provided it can come up with the funds by April 14, 2010.
Right now they are $3 million short. About $4 million came from public funds, such as the city’s Department of Public Works and Department of Recreation and Parks. Private donors came forward with a further $5.5 million, including the U.S. Academy of Motion Arts and Sciences and celebrities like Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
But surely $12 million is just a small amount if all the celebrities especially the well known ones would unite and donate to save this iconic symbol. There are so many well known celebrities that even $10,000 each would not hurt don’t you think?
