If there’s such a thing called “super-stressed”, that’s what I am during the past few days. I had to juggle a lot of things, and everything should be done within the 24 hours of each day.
Then I saw Rafa Nadal’s quarternal final game against Nikolay Davydenko where the former had to withdraw from the match because of an injury. It was sad enough to see Rafa lose, sadder to see him injured. I know, Rafa doesn’t know me and my feeling this way would not affect him in any way. But, what the hell!
Then, came the news that Rafa will not be playing on the Master’s Cup in Shanghai because his injury is serious. It’s so sad for the number 1 player in the world to miss a tournament because of physical constraints. In his interview, he said:
On a personal level I had as one of my goals to become #1 during this year and competing at so many events might have harmed, specially at the end of the season, my physical condition, taking away the power needed to play at a high level in these last events. I don´t know if this has been a mistake or not but the fact is that with the goal achieved I also have to take one of the most difficult and painful decisions:I have decided not to compete at the Masters Cup in Shanghai.
To any fan, receiving this news is stressful. But I’m sure, Rafa, his family and his loved ones are sadder upon hearing this.
Rafa suffered tendonitis in his right knee. The tendon on his right knee is inflamed due to constant strain. But the doctor says he just needs some rest and anti-inflammatory drugs, and soon enough, he will be hitting the courts once again. Thank God it is nothing serious that will keep him away from the courts for a long long time.
I simply hope that he will be fine in a few days. He needs rest. After all his grueling hours at work, he definitely needs to take a rest. The body can only take so much.
It’s a good thing that Rafa decided to take a rest. Anyone who has been following his career will know how hard he has worked this year. Now that he finally took the tough top spot from Federer, he needs to slow down. After all, he is assured of the #1 position until the end of the season. I know Rafa won’t say no to any challenge. So if it were entirely up to him, he would continue to play. But his body says NO…this time, the Matador, the King of Clay, and the Fighter, had to concede.
Still, Vamos Rafa!
